“Ceremonial Bird Pot: Abena” is a powerful, collaborative sculpture by Jenny Pohlman (American, b. 1960), Sabrina Knowles (American, b. 1955) that combines blown, sculpted, and sand blasted glass, adorned with world beads to explore themes of femininity, ritual, and transformation. Standing 67" inches tall (with stand), the piece's totemic presence is striking, and curvaceous, evoking both the human form and the symbolism of fertility and strength.

The sculpture's body is adorned with tribal markings in yellow that run vertically up the lower body and through the torso, suggesting a deep connection to cultural and spiritual rites. Instead of a traditional head, a delicate yellow glass tip replaces the figure’s face, while maroon-hued wings of glass extend from the back, culminating an ethereal, bird-like quality. The combination of organic forms, vibrant colors, and ritualistic elements creates a dynamic narrative that speaks to the artists’ exploration of feminine power and cultural storytelling.
